Tips On How To Design A Great Coin
How to design a great coin. From my experience a great coin has a little extra "WOW" to it, whether it be odd shaped, regular shaped, or cut out. All these options can make for a great coin if done properly. The key is attention to detail. First of all make sure that all the words are properly spelled, and properly spaced. Then make sure all the painted areas are painted the proper color, sometime logos or rank symbols are too small to be painted properly. Decide whether you want to sacrifice proper coloring or space by making the logo bigger.
Good detail on a coin is another main ingredient. If the coin size is smaller like a 1-1/2" it is possible that the greatest of factories won't be able to get the greatest of detail due to the size of the design. Even stepping it up to 1-3/4" can make the world of difference. Make sure that if your plating is shiny that you ask about having a texture made to the recessed area behind the lettering, this helps a lot. It brings the lettering out more and becomes more visible to the eye at a quick glance. Make your coin unique in some way if possible, round coins are great, but they can get lost in the shuffle easier than a odd shaped or cut out coin. That is unless they really stand out due to the rarity of the design.
Edging can really make your coin stand out. You can take a rather not so unique coin and add a nice edging to it and give it that WOW factor. Make your coin a limited edition by sequential numbering it. This always adds worth to the coin. Which way better to show that your coin is a limited and rare find. Cut outs are a great way to go if you can afford the lost space in the design, cut out coins are neat and really catch the eye. Spinner coins are a rare, really cool, and crowd pleasing. Bottle opener coins show that "hey my coin will see your coin and raise you a function !" Last but not least there is The ODD Shaped Coins, Most of these coins just look like they can beat up a round or cut out coin. Odd shaped coins cost more in production but are really great !
